  1. Happy Birthday to Dave K

Thank you, Betsy, I love that cake!
  2. Happy Birthday Betsy Speicher

    Happy Birthday, Betsy!
  3. "The Planet Will Boil" (yes, that's a quote)

    . . . and that is a blatant understatement!!
  4. The Narcissist in Chief

That's why I call him Obama bin Laden, because he is a worse enemy to this country than Osama bin Laden ever was.
  5. Do you like heroic music? Try this...

Copied this song a long time ago to a CD of personal favorites and listen to it often.
  6. Do you consume media with a bad editorial stance?

The San Francisco (Communist) Chronicle has never seen a tax it didn't like or a left wing LTE it didn't like. The Sunday Chron includes a separate editorial section called "Insight" which I find to be quite ironic. One of the columnists for that paragon of Leftism is Robert Reich. After reading one or 2 sentences of his I can't read any more. The local paper, the San Jose Mercury, is not much better. Of course these are California papers so one can't expect anything rational.
  7. Happy Birthday to Dave K

Thank you, Betsy, for remembering my birthday! . . . and happy belated birthday to you.
  8. Hello the Group

Welcome!! I had the same thought when I was 16 or 17 in a Catholic High School and I haven't looked back. Keep your mind open cuz' you're going to learn a lot.
  9. 2012 Presidential Poll for May 2012

I agree with Ruveyn except for the Plastic Mormon part. I'm not very interested in anyone's religiosity so I would replace Mormon with Man. It is just incredible to me to know that we have no one to vote for who believes in individual rights, not even Ron Paul, a term not even mentioned in politics for god know how many years. I believe that Obama bin Laden (a term I use and do not mean it comically because I think he is a worse enemy to this country than Osama bin Laden ever was) has a base philosophy in socialism. Technically he is a statist but statism is simply a rung on the ladder to socialism.
  10. Happy Birthday to Linda

    Happy birthday, Linda!!
  11. Assassination of Americans

    Nope. Think treason.
  12. Happy Birthday to alann

Alann, best wishes for more years of a great life and great music!
  13. Happy Birthday, IBM

Since this subject was brought up I just want to warn folks out there that IBM is no longer a good place to work. I know people who worked there in the 60's, 70's and 80's when employees were treated with respect, e.g., if a project you were working on was cancelled you would be assigned to another department/project. There were other benefits also like education to learn new things for your new job - I could go on. Now you are simply laid off no matter if you are a superstar employee or not. Those who do survive layoffs are expected to do the work of two or sometimes three people and for lack of better terms are treated like dirt. Yes, I was laid off too, twice; once as an employee and once as a contractor. At first I thought it was just a simple business decision (and maybe it was) but then I started hearing stories from friends who were still working and expectations for them were as explained above. My purpose in writing this is just to alert anyone, especially younger people (college graduates) that this is not a good company to work for any more - working 60 hours a week and getting paid for 40 is not uncommon. There are better companies to look at for careers. I'll leave it at that.
  14. Mispronunciations

Double geez I still got it wrong - is there an edit function? One more (last) time: Theopholus Thistle, a successful thistle sifter, while sifting a sea of unsifted thistles thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb.
  15. Mispronunciations

Geez, I got my own tongue twister wrong, it should be: Theopholus Thistle, a successful thistle sifter, thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb.
  16. Mispronunciations

. . . or, Theopholus Thistle thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb.
  17. Mispronunciations

I don't care I still don't like it. One of my other pet peeves is toxic used as a noun usually by addding an 's', i.e. toxics as in that dump is full of toxics instead of toxins. You may argue similarly that Merriam-Webster lists toxic (secondly) as a noun but it still sounds awful used as a noun just as the 't' sounds awful in often when pronounced. There, I've got that off my chest.
  18. Mispronunciations

One of my irritations is the pronunciation of the 't' in 'often.'
  19. Happy Birthday to Dave K

Thank you all, Betsy, John and Alann. Went to a friend's house and majorly overate fish stew and over did some wine. Hmmm, reminds me of an arts cruise a few years ago . . .
  20. Happy Birthday to Betsy Speicher!

Happy Birthday, Betsy, from another October Objectivist!!
  21. Your Life IS Your Own!

Yet another great observation, Brad. Unfortunately this is also the view of Republicans. The only difference between Republicans and Democrats is a matter of degree.
  22. Promiscuous women cause earthquakes

Having lived in California for over 30 years I always kind of suspected that was the case!! It's nice to know for sure.
  23. Las Vegas' City Center

RayK: Where is the Red Rock Casino in relation to the City Center? The Strip? I plan on going to OCON this year even though I lost my job thanks to Bush and Obama (had to get in a political dig), but it will be nice to be with rational people for a week or so.
  24. Happy Birthday to Linda

Happy birthday, Linda! First, I want to echo Jim A.'s comments - I will never forget that experience. You are such a joy to talk to at the gallery and always helpful with suggestions and hints on what to do and where to go when I am in Napa . Haven't made my usual monthly trip up your way but hope to see you soon.
