  1. More Money than God

Thanks for the reply. So far, it's been easily understandable and entertaining.
  2. More Money than God

Before I launch into reading this, I'm curious: How much finance/economics knowledge is assumed on the part of the reader?
  3. Spam Attacks on THE FORUM

Here's one way to have some fun with scammers.
  4. "Ferris Bueller House" for sale

When I get my next raise, I might look into one of these.
  5. "Ferris Bueller House" for sale

While much of modernism is cold and soulless, at least it is ripe for a bit of fun.
  6. Lies Contribute Nothing To Educational Agenda

Why slave away in the salt mines as a teacher? The real money is in being part of the administration. A local district, Falcon District 49 recently bought out the contracts of three staff to the tune of over $750,000. Nice work if you can get it. Spending three quarters of a million dollars to 'save' half a million. Government math would be funny if it weren't so pain inducing.
  7. Wyoming "Education": Reversing The Rot

Back when I was a student at the University of Wyoming, I got into a back and forth with an Education major over 'Outcomes Based Education(OBE),' the then fad being taught at the School of (mis)Education. I don't remember the substance of the tete-a-tete other than my position: OBE - bad. In OBE, the 'outcome' (student performance) is all that matters, regardless of how the student gets there. Anyway, just as communism was a perfect system that was incorrectly implemented [/sarcasm], there is no problem with OBE and its derivatives that can't be cured with more money.
  8. A "better place"

These so-called 'rest homes' have always seemed, to me, to be nothing more than a living death. Faced with the prospect of having to go to one of these places and waste away, I'm not so sure I wouldn't put a gun to my head.
  9. I know this is wishful thinking, but, Gehry should have been their first patient.
  10. Founders College, R.I.P.?

So here we have the final word. According to this article, Founders College failed and the students were left high and dry because of inadequate government oversight (that is, unless I misread the article)(Found via boortz.com.) The comments are a hoot.
  11. The Feminist Politics of Islamic Misogyny

While the crickets are chirping over at NOW, there is a group of women in Ukraine who are not taking Islamic maltreatment of women sitting down: Here.
  12. Lexus LFA vs Ferrari 599 HGTE

Ferraris are almost always drop dead gorgeous. However, the HGTE seems to be surprised at the affrontery (sp?) of a Japanese challenge: In the meantime, the LFA seems to be thinking of having Italian for lunch: When I get my next raise, I'll probably go with the Ferrari.
  13. To The Bureaucrats: Sorry, But You DO "Suck"

I did have my camera, but, was rolling on something else at the time. One of my mics may have picked up the conversation. I'll check the raw video.
  14. To The Bureaucrats: Sorry, But You DO "Suck"

Overheard at the Colorado Democrats election watch party in Denver on Tuesday: "Why do the Republicans have the color red? We're the real reds!"
  15. Conform, Or You Die!

I've often seen viros described as "watermelons: Green on the outside, red on the inside." In other words, after the fall of communism, various lefties needed a new cause to latch onto. Perhaps there may be a potential new alliance brewing. While this article doesn't explicitly cite any threats re the environment, the well-being of weeds and bugs could be just another rationale to kill the infidel. When death is the overarching end, I suppose any excuse will suffice to justify the means in their own minds.
  16. My new blog on crime

What role, if any, do family members play in this delusion? When one gangbanger kills another, I always have to shake my head in amazement when a relative describes the 'victim' as "a good boy that cared for his kids," no matter the criminal record, no matter that he left behind ten children by six different women.
  17. Classical Music's New Golden Age

It was about a year or so after the end of the First Gulf War, when, through mutual friends, I made the acquaintance of a composer (whose name escapes me at the moment). As it happens, he was working on a piece that was to accompany the reading of an anti-war poem. My friends were also to take part in the performance. The premiere took place in front of a packed house (perhaps about one hundred people). The 'orchestra' consisted of a violin, cello, flute and IIRC, a snare drum. My friends 'played' the laser discs. That's right. The discs were held by a string and when struck, were dunked in a pan of water. A not at all unpleasing sound, actually. Reminiscent of when my brother and I had to do the dishes when we were young. Anyway, the audience seemed to love the performance, all the atonality and dissonance one would expect in a modern composition. After the show, I met up with my friends and the composer. I don't remember exactly what I said, but, it was along the lines of: "What the heck was that?" I recall the composer's answer word for word: "It's just sounds, man."
  18. Atlas Shrugged movie redux

Well, there is an interview (part 1) with the film's director here. I know absolutely nothing about Johansson (or anyone else connected with the production, for that matter). While he (Johansson) may be familiar with the source material, he doesn't seem to understand what Miss Rand was all about. AS a Nietzschean novel? I wish them the best of luck anyway.
  19. Control, By Any Other Name, Still Stinks!

It may be more fun to be a thorn in the side of the so called representatives. At least it's not a term limited position! Some thorny things that could be done are: Demanding that an audit be conducted to find out if the 'fifth penny' is actually going to where it's supposed to be going. City Council members generally don't like audits (at least here in the 'Springs). Here in Colorado we have the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR), where, among other provisions, tax increases are allowed only with voter approval. As an aside, the author of TABOR, Douglas Bruce, was an El Paso County Commissioner and later was appointed to fill a vacant seat in the state legislature. To my recollection, he didn't accomplish anything significant other than to be a gadfly and a source of amusement for the press. Best of luck to any man/woman of principle who wishes to run for public office.
  20. "Charity" At The Point Of A Gun?

Now, I wholeheartedly agree with the original post. It seems that there might be a simple solution. Don't buy anything in the city that is subject to sales tax (I don't remember if groceries were taxed in Wyoming).
  21. Self-Reliance: A Better Understanding

Perhaps another energy source is being overlooked here. I've lived in Laramie and Cheyenne and have seen a lot of four legged poop producers running around. That poop can be used to produce 'gobar gas.' I first learned of this from reading the following: Gobar Gas I Gobar Gas II I also found some other interesting stuff: Gas plant (Warning: Viro propaganda at the beginning, otherwise useful info.) Diagram Of course, I realize that if/when TSHTF, livestock will probably be the first to be poached, but one should be able to collect and store the gas produced.
  22. Happy Birthday to mcvideo

Thanks for the good wishes all.
  23. Galt's speech was a major stumbling block for me on my first reading. I skipped over it and continued with the rest. It wasn't until after some study of Miss Rands non-fiction that I was able to read AS again, this time completely.
  24. Funny Videos

After looking through the archives, I found these videos to post: The Battle of Cowpens (cuteness alert) National Anthem Pentathlon Camp Enjoy.
  25. Famous Pikes Peak Short Film

Thanks all. The one driver might not have known about his three tires, but he may have wondered why he was having to rev so high!
