If you like World War II setting, I highly recommend HBO's Band of Brothers produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. It has the same feel as Saving Private Ryan and it's a true story of American paratroopers who fought in Europe during World War II. It was very well acted. I also love HBO's From The Earth To The Moon. Also produced by Tom Hanks. It is about the Apollo space program. Very inspiring and well acted as well. Currently, I'm watching HBO's The Pacific. Also produced by Tom Hanks. It is about the battle of American marines with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. I am no fan of Tom Hanks, it just happened that most of these TV series that he produced are my favorite.

I rented this movie due to lack of better choices at redbox. But my it was worth seeing! I enjoyed mostly the dialogues and the acting in this film. Michael Fassbender (Xmen: First Class) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland 2010) did an outstanding lead roles. Warning: A few spoilers below Despite the dark scenes and plot of the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is truly a classic!

Did anybody noticed the movie release date: April 15?

I am curious as to what most of the people at The Forum think about the sense of life of the main characters in this movie.

Great news! You can pre-order the dvd that will be released on October 9 at Amazon. It's definitely worth buying.

This movie was released in 2009 and did not reached the U.S. until 2010. And the movie is showing at selected theaters only. I highly recommend this movie because the plot of it is Reason versus Faith and the consequences when faith prevails in a society. The movie is suppose to be a true story. Although I haven't read much about the main character in the movie, Hypatia (which was greatly portrayed by Rachel Weisz), the sequence of the events in the movie was well done and the rational and the mystics were very well depicted. As soon as the movie ended, the first thing that came in to my mind was: OPAR - I need to read OPAR again. Warning: There are spoilers about this movie in this post. One of my favorite lines by Hypatia to Synesius: "You don't question what you believe. I must."

Hello Betsy! May I please suggest Agora for review and rating? Thanks!

I haven't read the novels nor the short stories but the movie is definitely entertaining. Superb acting of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I highly recommend it!

I love running. I love the feeling of the wind on my face. It doesn't matter if it's 10 degrees Fahrenheit outside or if it's 80 degrees. It's that triumphant feeling of ending an 8 mile run that makes my day. I have never joined in any race in my life. I find running as the most selfish sports that I do. It's what I called "Lulu's" time. And I enjoy the solitude. Last Thursday I signed up on my first marathon in Duluth, Minnesota (Grandma's). The event challenged me... 26.2 miles. I'm not joining to compete but to challenge myself and to have fun. My ultimate goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I would like to hear your marathon experience/s, if you have one. I would also like to hear your strategies and the best marathon you have ever done.

Thank you for all the interesting posts. I would like to share a reply I received from a good friend of mine: Apparently there weren't any scientific evidence proving that eating organically grown foods is better for your health. It might taste good to some people but then again, taste varies in individuals. If you can afford organic foods, there is nothing to loose eating them. Therefore, I decided to continue eating non-organic foods. However, I just become more conscious on some of the food additives in the ingredients. Here's a link that might help : Food Additives Buen Provecho!

I have been curious on the purpose of eating organic foods. Does anybody have any reliable source on the reason of eating organic foods? I am very skeptical of all the "hogwash" on eating organic foods. Thanks in advance!

Happy Birthday to Lu Norton
Lu Norton replied to Betsy Speicher's topic in R & R (Rational & Recreational)
Thank you very much for the warm greetings. It has been quite a while since I logged in. I have been very busy. Mr. Royce that was a very delightful poem. I have never felt so great in my life. I haven't reached 30 yet and my health and career are already both doing so well. -
I will be going to New York this May 25th until the 31st. I have been there a few times. I visited the following: 1. Empire State Building 2. Chrysler Building 3. Statue of Liberty 4. Ellis Island 5. Metropolitan Museum of Art 6. Little Italy 7. China Town 8. Midtown and Downtown Manhattan I will be staying at Long Island, Valley Stream specifically. My plan is to visit Guggenheim Museum, watch Chicago The Musical, and to do outdoor activities such as leisure walking and jogging. Are there any public tracks around? Or a jogging friendly park where it's not crowded? I also prefer somewhere in a safe neighborhood. If you can suggest other activities to do, I will love to hear it.
