  1. Happy Birthday to Elizabeth

Ciao Betsy! Thank you so much for the cheerful Birthday greetings! I hope all is well with everyone! As I am connected with a few other people here in Europe, I was thinking it would be such a nice idea for any other Students of Objectivism located on this side of the Atlantic to meet at some point in the future! Best wishes and Best Premises... tutti...
  2. Happy Birthday to Elizabeth

What a wonderful cake, Betsy! Thanks for bringing a bright spot to my birthday!
  3. Great Coffee and Fine Food Worldwide

Buongiorno America! After living in Italy, I have to say how much I miss American coffee! Although there are plenty of good coffee bars here, and espresso is wonderful... I MISS being able to determine the quality of the coffee bean, grinding them myself however thin or thick I would like, and using my American style coffee maker (I had one here and running finely ground espresso through hot water did not quite cut it). As for food... Italian cuisine is very good! I have developed a taste for gnocchi in place of macaroni and cheese. Pizza is very different compared to American style pizza, and surely one of the first things I will do when visiting America is order Pizza Hut pizza! We need to import Skittles, jelly beans, and sunflower seeds (right now I can only find them in pet supply stores). On the other hand, the best chocolate in the world is made in Italy in my opinion.
  4. Happy Birthday to Elizabeth

Grazie mille... thank you! My, how time flies! Have a wonderful day there too!
  5. The Golden Compass (2007)

I thought the film was quite good and gave it a 9 for a Sense of Life. The message of free will is definitely a positive. I'd been aware that some Christians were offended by the film or book, but I didn't see the film as necessarily anti-religious. I thought it could also be taken as anti-fascist (if one had to pick an "anti" word). Without having read The Golden Compass, the film almost reminded me of the story in The Giver by Lois Lowry.
  6. Love Actually (2003)

I saw this again recently and forgotten how much I love the combination of story lines and how they are tied together. It's a very sweet film!
  7. Best Christmas presents (actual or desired)

I always love to give and receive homemade gifts at Christmas. But also good books are excellent. This year my children gave me a nice copy of Jane Eyre to add to my collection.
  8. Get a Fire Extinguisher!

When and if possible, I'd also get a quote for renters insurance.
  9. THE FORUM and My New Life

Betsy, I'm so glad you will continue The Forum! I wish you all the best with everything!
  10. 300 (2007)

I was finally able to see "300" this last weekend myself. This is another movie that I love because it inspires one to find out more about the history the story is based on! It was artfully done. The graphics were pretty amazing really. The acting was very good! I especially applauded Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo. And of course, I loved the message.
  11. Stephen's Health

Our deepest sympanthy to Betsy and the Speicher Family! Stephen will be greatly missed! He seemed a man of integrity, inspired excellent conversation here on The Forum, as well as in our home in regard to philosophy (and terrific movie rec's too!), and so many other subjects of interest. Best Regards, Tony and Elizabeth Anema
  12. Stephen's Health

Best wishes for a full and quick recovery! Take good care! -Elizabeth
  13. Frequency (2000)

Frequency is one of the best films we've seen in a while! About a 1/4 of the way in to the movie I was on the edge of my seat! Unpredictable story! I'm so glad to be able to see good film rec's here. Thanks!
  14. The Aristotle Adventure

This is my favorite book on Aristotle!
  15. Yesterday I came across a good msn site for video tutorials on various home improvement projects called "Be Jane". I have watched just a couple of them so far and they seem quite helpful. My husband and I are going to take on the task of fixing up our outdoor carriage lights instead of buying new, and "the Janes" give a good step-by-step tutorial for just such a project. There are numerous indoor/outdoor project video tutorials, as well as articles. Have fun!
