Posted 29 Apr 2005 · Report post Book Three is a relatively calm transition from the intense passion and characterization of the first two volumes to the growing conflict and drama to follow. Jack Frake reappears, having established himself in Virginia, after being entirely absent in Book Two (except by reference from other characters) as we get to know Hugh Kenrick. These two main characters meet, and we primarily follow Hugh as he adapts to life in the colonies and develops a friendship with Jack. Much of the stage is set for what comes next. All the rich narrative is back in Book Three, along with several interesting developments in the personal lives of the main characters.
