House Passes Waxman-Markey Climate Bill

9 posts in this topic

Politico is reporting that the House has just passed its fascistic national energy tax, euphemistically called the "Waxman-Markey Climate Bill" in "honor" of its two central sponsors, by a vote of 219 to 212. Eight Republican congressmen voted "Yeah" to the measure thereby giving it its "margin of victory". Those eight are:

Mary Bono Mack (Calif.)

Mike Castle

Mark Steven Kirk (Ill.)

Leonard lance (NJ)

Frank LoBiondo (NJ

John McHugh (NY)

Dave Reichert (Washington)

Chris Smith (NJ)

The tight margin in the House vote might, I suppose, indicate some problems for the bill as it makes its way to the Senate. In addition, efforts were made to highlight the fact that the vote on the energy tax was conducted without a thorough reading and/or review of the bill or the 300-page "amendment" added to it at 3:00 a.m. this morning.

Republicans accused the Democrats of ramming the bill through the House. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.), managing the debate for his party, asked repeatedly if there was even a copy of the current version of the bill anywhere in the House chamber. Democratic Rep. Ellen Tauscher – sitting in the speaker’s chair although she’s already been confirmed as Obama’s undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security — repeatedly dodged the question.

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), one of the bill’s sponsors, finally rose to say that a single copy of the current version of the bill was available at the speaker’s desk – and on the Internet, which members would have to leave the floor to access.

That wasn’t good enough for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who delayed the roll call vote by reading page-by-page through a 300-page managers’ amendment Democrats added at around 3 a.m. Friday. Boehner seemed to relish the hour-long stunt, picking out the bill’s most obscure language and then pontificating about what it might – or might not – mean. Republicans laughed along with him and roared with applause when he was done.

The saving grace is that I've heard this has little chance in the Senate - we can hope.

Glenn Beck help up a copy of Atlas Shrugged saying that the bill they were voting on had more pages than Atlas and that it was given to Congressmen last night. Heh.

See http://michellemalkin.com/2009/06/26/epa-p...report-revealed

The EPA tried to squelch one of their own people who called them out on their dishonest reliance on junk science; but his report has now been leaked. (Follow the link).

If the bill DOES pass the (corrupt) senate, I think it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I think it will (finally) trigger an avalanche of opposition to our depraved power-lusting "masters" in the White House and Congress.

I agree with Bill. And I will note that the Australian version of the bill is all but dead, so there is hope yet.

Senator Inhofe continues his crusade against the viros' junk science.

Sen. Inhofe Calls for Inquiry Into 'Suppressed' Climate Change Report

Republicans are raising questions about why the EPA apparently dismissed an analyst's report questioning the science behind global warming.

A top Republican senator has ordered an investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency's alleged suppression of a report that questioned the science behind global warming.

The 98-page report, co-authored by EPA analyst Alan Carlin, pushed back on the prospect of regulating gases like carbon dioxide as a way to reduce global warming. Carlin's report argued that the information the EPA was using was out of date, and that even as atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have increased, global temperatures have declined.

"He came out with the truth. They don't want the truth at the EPA," Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla, a global warming skeptic, told FOX News, saying he's ordered an investigation. "We're going to expose it."

The controversy comes after the House of Representatives passed a landmark bill to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, one that Inhofe said will be "dead on arrival" in the Senate despite President Obama's energy adviser voicing confidence in the measure. ...

I dunno. If the Messiah's power-lusting fascist henchmen do pass the bill and cripple the economy, won't that be the beam that breaks the camel's back, and lead to a massive uprising against the illegitimate, unconstitutional looter regime in Washington?

It depends on how long it takes to have an impact in what parts of the economy, who is blamed for it, and who can sort out what happened from the murky spin and demagoguery against freedom and capitalism. At some point, more problems with the economy could lead to a backlash against Obama and the Democrats in an election, but that wouldn't imply that people know what is right as they grasp for "solutions" in a sea of Pragmatism and statist premises.

I saw that the small number of Republicans in the House either failed to vote against it (absent), or voted in favor. I wonder if leaders in the business community who know this will hurt their company will weigh in or remain silent. I think Dave Reichert is in a district near Seattle so I would think he would not be such a fool.

I wish I could get more involved with this one but things have been very busy and work and I haven't had much time for politics lately. I would probably just get angry that so many people are so blasé again.
