Happy Birthday! Vespasiano.

For new day's rise

New light in new eyes,

While new songs cheer,

"The singer is here!"

For one year gone

Dim twilight grows dawn,

And sun-songs cheer,

"The singer's still here!"

The base----the past;

The tenor, self-cast;

The stage, long set;

The singer sings yet!

Thank-you all so much for your lovely greetings! JohnRgt -- what a marvelous photograph! Brian, once again your poetry hits just the right notes. Betsy -- I really enjoyed the card, particularly its final, harmonious "coming-together" of the different musical styles. A symbolic delight!

Although the week-end turned out to be quite different from what I had hoped and planned for, I nontheless have enjoyed every minute of it . . . I was even able to obtain at the last minute a ticket for a performance tomorrow night at Carnegie Hall of the Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2, my favorite piece of music. All-in-all, then, it's been a wonderful birthday doubly enhanced by all your thoughts.

That's my all time favorite piece of music too! What a happy birthday!

I will be sure to think of you as I listen tonight, Betsy!
