Earthquake in Chile

6 posts in this topic

I fear a rerun of recent events coming: the earthquake in Chile. Does it mean we, the U.S., will have to supply more economic/medical/military aid to a foreign country for something their own private citizens should be taking care of, or should have diminished the effects of with proper private city-building?

I do not know much about the region but from my limited memory, and despite the socialist governments that followed the great Pinochet, Chile is a free market country (or at least significantly more so than its neighbours).

Haiti, by contrast, was a socialist dictatorship with nothing except bitter hatred for the rich and white.

I thus theorize that the US won't need to send help.

Given that Chile (warts and all) is a civilized country, I suspect the death toll of the 8.8 earthquake will be fraction of the death toll of the Haiti quake which had one tenth the energy.

The difference is in the countries. Haiti is a primitive country, Chile is not. Both have been misgoverned, but technology and industry exists and is at work in Chile at least a century in advance of what is going on in Haiti.

Chile is the only South American member of the OECD and is frequently called a model of economic liberalism. If you check the Heritage.org Index of Economic Freedom, they rank as the tenth most free country in the world. In contrast, the US ranks as the 8th. Remember, we mainly have to sacrifice ourselves to the poorest and most backward nations according to altruism.

What's infuriating to me is that the MSM will not identify the concept that is staring them in the face. Here we have an existential example of two countries hit by major natural calamities. The death toll in each country is directly proportional to the amount of Capitalism present in each country.

It's a mistake to wait around hoping the MSM will suddenly becomes objective. It's not going to happen any time soon. It's not their forte.
