Japanese asteroid mission

2 posts in this topic

On www.space.com, I just read that a Japanese spacecraft has possibly brought a piece of an asteroid back from space.

If it has, that is tremendous. That would be the first step toward manned exploration of, mining of, and possibly settling of asteroids. I would be thrilled!

(I just want it all to be done by private industry, that's all.)

That scientific venture is one of the greatest space voyages of all time. Residues or not, their vehicle was returned after contacting a speeding asteriod at great distances.

The grins and smiles of the space team were well earned. That's the type of smile that doesn't want to go away.

Congratulations for a marvelous job well done.
