Happy Birthday to the Versemeister!!

I only wish I could wish you a Happy Birthday in verse. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your favorite wine, music and other art today. I also hope the valley weather down there is conducive to a good little jaunt somewhere.

Thank you, Betsy, for the sparkling box; thank you, Ray for a happy day; thank you, Jake, for a gorgeous cake, and thank you Jim--for not going out on a limb! :D

For today I have written:

Birthday Ode To The Poet

There was joy, there was mirth,

There was worth upon earth

When a baby called Brian jumped out;

There was laugh, there was cry,

There was sigh upon sigh,

When his babyhood rhymes flit about.

First was "sweet", then was "bird",

Then was word after word

Of the rain in the reign of the spring;

Then was "flight out of sight

In the height of the night

For the jetting-off pilots a-wing!"

And the lift of a song

On his lips did belong,

And it whirled him wild paper to write,

And a pen, when it saw

That his hand would be law,

It surrendered, and wrote with delight.

Now's the day to recall

The glad man musical

Who has thrilled us with magical fire;

Both our minds and our hearts

He's ignited, sent darts,

With the life-loving slings of his lyre!
