Edward MacDowell: Indian Suite (Op. 48, 1892)

1 post in this topic

The American Romantic composer, Edward MacDowell, completed his second orchestral suite, the "Indian Suite, in 1892. Like so much of MacDowell's work, it is expertly constructed and beautifully orchestrated. It is also typical of the new, free-form style of multi-movement orchestral works being written by European composers in lieu of the more formally structured symphony.

As an introduction to this work, here are the 2nd and 3rd movements, "Love Song" and "War-Time" respectively.
