Jennings Diary

2 posts in this topic

I would like to recommend the 'Jennings' series of books by the British author Anthony Buckeridge to the avid fiction reader of the FORUM. 'Jennings Diary' is a particularly good book of this series.

The series is about the fictional antics and adventures of young boys (10 - 12 yrs) in a British boarding school, with Jennings and Darbishire being the main characters. According to the author "Jennings was tall for his age with restless hands, fidgety feet and a mop of dark brown hair which fringed his wide awake eyes.... Jennings was for ever seeking outlets for his exuberant energy...."

His 'exuberant energy' is what gets him into scrapes of his own making, and his unique way of tackling the problems that crop up lead to conclusions that are hilarious. :D I've been recently re-reading this series, and they are an absolute delight to read! Jennings interactions with one of his teachers, and a particular village policeman are a treat. The stories are very well written, light-hearted, and never fail to make you smile atleast, if not laugh out loud ;)
