Happy Birthday to ADS

76 posts in this topic

Very metaphysical and epistemological HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes to member ADS.

In honor of Alex's birthday, everyone gets to play a new version of Alex's favorite game, called "Who is this ... in philosophy." And, for a change, Alex gets to play too!

5 B-Day points for guessing the name of each philosopher. The philosophers are numbered from 1 to 23, one for each of Alex's years. You cannot use the computer as a tool for identifying the philosopher's name.

NOTE: Please do not hit "REPLY" when responding, since the names of the philosophers are embedded in picture URLs. Make your guesses using "NEW POST." Thanks!

As Alex always says: "Let the guessing (and the fun) begin!"

Pretty impressive, Alex. You did your birthday honor!

2, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, and 22 are all correct. Twelve right answers, a total of 60 B-Day points for the birthday boy!

That leaves 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 23 remaining.

Thanks; not bad, I suppose!

The more I look at the ones I didn't guess the more I'm getting a clearer idea of who they are, but I'll give other people a chance. 11 philosophers remaining ...

I don't know who the leftovers are (maybe 19 is Sartre?), but I just wanted to say...

Happy Birthday Alex!

Hope you have fun. :D

Happy birthday, Alex, and many more to come.

About the philosophers, #13 looks like Descartes to me.

16 is Epicurus?
Oops. I mean 8 is Epicurus?
7 is Epicurus? (looked on the wrong side for the number).

:D:D:D

The third one is the charm. 7 is Epicurus. 5 more points for Rose Lake!

That leaves 1, 3, 4, 9, 10, 13, 16, and 23 remaining.

I don't suppose that will count, but I gave it a good try!

Sure it counted. Everyone gets one guess for each of the numbered philosophers. No one said the name could not be the same for each guess. :D

Is #13 Hobbes?

Hmm, or is Hobbes #10?

I'm also thinking that #13 is Voltaire.

10 it is! 5 points for Nathanial Hale 1775. Congratulations.

That means we have 1, 3, 4, 9, 13, 16, and 23 remaining.

Nice. I took a second look at #13 and realized that he was too well dressed to be an Englishman :D

Happy Birthday Alex!

Sorry, you already guessed for 13.

If the remaining ones (they get tougher) are not guessed in a while, I'll give a hint and everyone gets another guess for each remaining philosopher.
