Here is a simple example of a to-do list. The four categories are my three highest personal values (my central purpose in life plus two peripheral purposes) and necessities. All action items begin with an imperative verb. a real-life to-do list would probably have many more items and more levels of indentation. In the following example, underlining means I completed the item.

  • PROJECT A
    • Interview client for project specs.
    • Write estimate.

FRIENDS

  • Meet Marianne at 715 pm, Friday, Sept. 8.
  • Thank Luann for postcard from Denmark.

PLAY

  • Buy latest Robert Parker novel in paperback.
  • Ask bike shop to replace cracked gearshift handle on bicycle.

NECESSITIES

  • Go to semi-annual dental appointment October 19, 1030 am.
  • Pay quarterly taxes by November 1.
