Who the devil is Jamie Clay?

I've never heard of him, and he has no previous movie credits, but IMDB says he's been cast as John Galt in the Atlas Shrugged movie.

It looks like just about anybody can update IMDB and I'll bet he's a wannabe John Galt.

One thing that is nice is that someone posted a very nice plot summary of the BOOK recently.

Scott Holleran has an interview with Vadim Perlman who has written a script for, and will direct, the Atlas Shrugged movie. He discusses the script, budget, and production plans for the film.

Thanks for that, Betsy. I do hope Mr. Perelman's own life, experience and thinking really do constitute doors leading to Miss Rand's ideas. He does say some things in this interview (especially the final quote, etc.) that are promising.

It does look promising. I don't think there is ever going to be a perfect adaptation, or something that Ayn Rand would have been fully satisfied with. However, I think Perelman will do the story more justice than most, given his comments.

He seems to have grasped some of it's principles. Who knows, the making of the movie may aid in him integrating a great deal more.

Once I got past the two sweet looking blonds, Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood, I decided to read the rest of the interview. :)

While there are reasons to be optimistic about Vadim Perelman, because he appears to have some affinity for Ayn Rand and her philosophy, this line sprang out of the page for me:

Vadim Perelman says:

It's a great and important work because it has affected so many people but it doesn't fit into the standards of prose—it's purely mechanical plotting and writing—and I'll give you an example. Every [character] pretty much says exactly what is on their mind—what Ayn Rand wants them to say—the characters don't seem to act independent of the author's voice. I wouldn't call the Bible an example of great literature, either, but it's very influential.

So, he thinks the literature is not great and "it's purely mechanical plotting". Some of the scenes in AS are so vivid and inspiring, I can hardly believe anyone thinks the writing is not great, never mind the genius of the plot and theme. For instance, Rearden confronting Ragnar is a brilliantly written scene.

Also, what is this thing that about the birds are "book ends"? That seems a bit shallow to me.

I was searching for an item in the Internet Movie Database and decided to check up on the progress (or lack thereof) of the projected Atlast Shrugged film.

Two John Galts are now listed -- the aforementioned Jamie Clay and Brad Pitt (although the latter, like Ms. Jolie, is noted as being "Rumored" to play the part).

I'm sorry to say, that Evan Rachel Wood is dating Marilyn Manson. The sweet girl she played in Across the Universe seems to be completely out of character; but her semi-Gothic paleness and black dresses might've been a giveaway. She stars in a music video with Manson where they hook up during a shower of blood.

My own mental image of Dagny is of a woman who is beautiful but not pretty.

"Pretty" implies a child-like cuteness and conventional attractiveness. I see Dagny as adult, intense, and not attractive in a conventional way but in a unique and unusually striking way.

That exactly describes this picture, which I first saw on the back cover of my first copy of Atlas, in 1966--this has been my mental picture of Dagny Taggart, ever since:

I concur. Here is the unedited version

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy both Angelina Jolie and, to a lesser extent, Brad Pitt, on screen. But the movie is Atlas Shrugged, not Mr. & Mrs. Smith 2. It deserves to have a look and feel all its own.

Looks like Charlize Theron is Dagny, according to IMDB. In my opinion, a better choice could not have been made. Jennifer Garner might have worked, too, but Theron is a better actress, and not even close to being as typecast as Garner. For the biggest female lead role perhaps in the history of cinema, Theron's timing and look is just right.

I saw a preview for the next Angelina Jolie blockbuster yesterday. Interesting promo line on the poster:
