Jokes Thread: Vol. 2 ?

For me, the Jokes thread now routinely takes at least thirty seconds to load. The solution that occurs to me is closing that thread to further posts, and starting a new one.

Perhaps making a Jokes sub-forum off the Recreational one so it is easy to find a joke that you really loved, by the joke title.

But, before I act, I would like to understand what is going on here. On my machine, and on quite a few others I have used from time to time, I have never noticed any discernible time difference between loading a long or a short thread. I always thought that the browser would load only the first page, which would explain why I see no differences in time. So, for Rose Lake or anyone who knows what's happening here, why a thirty second load for Rose and a virtually immediate one for me? Do other members have a similar problem as Rose.

Thanks for the suggestion, Michael. I'm not sure if a separate thread for each joke would be that helpful. The "Search" feature will find a post whether it is part of a thread or a thread unto itself. For instance, I couldn't think of the exact joke, but I remembered Paul had a joke with a Jewish man and a doctor. Searching on "+Jewish +doctor" under Paul's name, found that joke (and another one) right away.

I see the issue now. Recently I changed the number of posts per page to the maximum, so it's loading every post in the thread each time. Generally speaking I like the entire thread on one page. Most threads are not that long.

Assuming that my odd habits are insufficient reason to begin a new thread I'll 1) wait for the long threads to load 2) permanently re-set the number of posts per page to a much smaller number, or 3) change the 'posts per page' setting just before loading the jokes thread (or any really long thread).

Why not just set the posts per page to 20? That's how mine is set up.

Good. It has far and away the most views of any thread on the whole site, and every time it comes up my handle is there under "Topic Starter." I created that monster, and I'm kinda proud of it.
