Posted 10 Dec 2006 · Report post This is quite possibly the greatest video game ever made. It revolutionized the RPG genre by combining cutting-edge (for the time) graphics, a romantic score by Nobue Eumatsu, and the richest, most complex video-game plot to date, which has been continued in the animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. This games real appeal is in its plot and complex relationships between the characters. It was the first video-game to put the focus on the story as a work of art and spawned a whole sub-genre of plot-driven RPGs which continue to dominate the RPG market. This game is unquestionably a materpiece. I give it a 10.
Posted 11 Dec 2006 · Report post I agree completely that this was a great game. However, it pales in comparison to the greatness that was Final Fantasy VIII, which is my favorite game of all time. The reason I don't like this game as much as Final Fantasy VIII is the characters. I never personally cared for Cloud or Aeris, so the game dragged on for me at times. Still, it is one of the top 10 games for me.

I mean, come on, has there ever been, in the whole history of video games, a villain cooler than Sephiroth?!***SPOILERS***I actually just learned that there was another animated film based on FF7. It's called Last Order-Final Fantasy VII, and covers the events that took place 1 year before the beginning off FF7. As any die-hard fan knows, this is a time-frame that is filled with mystery in the plot of the game and is crucial to the events that followed. Apparently the plot focuses on the trip Zack and Sephiroth took to Nibelheim to investigate the malfunctioning Mako Reactor there, where Jenova was discovered and Sephiroth went mad and became the villain he is in FF7. Her intention was to devour the lifestream and move on to another planet to do the same. You have to read between the lines a little to figure it out in the game, but its made explicit in Advent Children.
Posted 12 Dec 2006 · Report post Carlos-Since you mentioned on the FF1 thread how much you like Uematsu's music, do you know about The Black Mages? He rewrote a bunch of the battle music from different FF games to be played by a rock band. It's pretty cool.

I was permanently stuck on Ruby and Emerald Weapon, the last of which was apocalyptically difficult...maybe even worse than the Omega Weapon from VIII
Posted 12 Dec 2006 · Report post Was I able to beat the WEAPONS...? Lol. (Warning: My total nerdness is about to show)Dude, I totally slaughtered that game. I had all materia mastered, every character at level 99, all limit breaks, every ultimate weapon, a gold chocobo, and yeah, I beat all three WEAPONS.Ruby Weapon is the hardest. It requires 2 Mime materia and a mastered Quadra Magic materia attached to a mastered Knights of the Round Materia. You also need a mastered Phoenix materia attached to mastered Counter Attack materia on somebody's armor to revive your party after Ruby one-shots them all.I don't remember the strategy for Emerald Weapon, but you can probably find one at gamefaqs.com.
