Snowflakes

Paul's Here started an interesting thread on rainbows, and he and others posted several nice pictures. A physicist at Caltech, Ken Libbrecht (currently Chairman of the department), has a profound interest in snow crystals and he set up a wonderful website on the subject: everything you ever wanted to know about snowflakes. Though his work in physics extends to projects like Caltech's LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory), Ken is quite the expert on snowflakes and he has written several snowflake books. You can also catch him as a guest on the Thursday, February 8th Martha Stewart Show, where he will be promoting his latest book.

Ken also has a Snowflake Store, with posters, prints, and books.

Here is a lovely poster for sale:

And one particularly beautiful print:

Thanks Stepgen, I'll check it out! I've long wondered about the basis for the idea that no two snowflakes are alike.

I'm sorry Stephen, for misspelling your name.
