If you say, do it!

I guess it's a thing of mine: It drives me crazy when members, for whatever reasons, write that they're done with a thread and, sooner or later, rejoin it.

Does anyone else have an issue with this, or is it just me?

Yes, I have an issue with it, especially since I've done it a few times. The basic reason being that I think I've said enough, but later think about it and see that there really is some unfinished issues that I'd like to discuss. I have tried to make it a rule not to "announce" that I've done; I just leave the thread when I have nothing more to say.

But for those who really mean that they're not coming back, I think it is appropriate to say that they have nothing more to say on a particular subject.

I agree, but what if the member has done some thinking and has something to add or say?

Perhaps we should make a habit of leaving that door open, as per Paul's post.

I'm through with this thread.

Thank you, Carlos--that gave me a good laugh! :)

Because you think he can't stay away, no doubt...lol

It’s difficult to stay away from a heated debate, even when participating makes you want to slam your head against a wall. I’m definitely guilty of playing the “screw you guys, I’m going home” card, but sometimes I just want to step away without people soliciting further posts from me. I know from personal history that I can get emotional about philosophy, and that I have a certain tolerance for frustration when dealing with others. Out of respect for the good people here, I would rather bow out than allow that frustration to taint the discussion.

That said, sometimes debates evolve and new, fresh points are raised. This can change the situation. It's rare, but it happens. :)
