Starting a Community Club

2 posts in this topic

My wife and I are starting a community based group down here in Naples, Florida. We have five "inductees" so far.

We've never been to any such meetings elsewhere (only campus clubs) and would greatly appreciate suggestions, pitfalls, etc.

We will be able to get listed in our newspaper's weekly Events Section as our "recruiting tool". Our idea is to have a supper meeting once a month in a restaurant where a full meal goes for $15-$20.

We do not have anyone around here qualified to give a presentation on Objectivism so we thought we would use either audio or video tapes of talks, interviews, etc. of Miss Rand. But we're unsure of how to incorporate this into supper; how long we should plan for the meetings to last; good ways to handle discussions . . .

I can be reached directly at jswfo@h-mmm.com

Good luck with your new group.

Also set up an Ayn Rand "Meetup" group to announce your club and its meetings.

I suggest making the first meeting strictly social and seeing what sort of activities the people who come there are interested in having and what efforts each of them are willing to make to see that they happen. Also, look into materials available from ARI including audios and videos on their web site.
