Byron's famous lines

2 posts in this topic

In his Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, Byron wrote:

Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean---roll!

Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain;

Man marks the earth with ruin---his control

Stops with the shore;

Not very satisfying, even with no context. So, I have made some changes:

Roll on, thou sweet and deep blue Ocean---roll!

A million fleets sweep over thee for gain;

Man piles the shores with profit---his control

Gleams 'round the earth!
