I'm going to OCON. Are you?

8 posts in this topic

I'll be going at OCON 2008 for the entire Conference. I'll be at all the General Sessions, the Welcome Reception and Dinner, Independence Day Celebration, and the Closing Reception, Dinner, and Dance.

I'm taking the Dance Workshop and the following Optional Courses and Classes:

First Session:

Ayn Rand's Conception of Valuing with Greg Salmieri

Freedom of Speech in American History with Eric Daniels

The Art of Introspection with Edwin A. Locke

Objectivism and the Future of Art with Sandra Shaw

Second Session:

Motivation and Pedagogy: Facilitating the Childhood Choice to Know with Ray Girn

Looking Up to Sinclair Lewis: Ayn Rand's Admiration for It Can't Happen Here with Shoshana Milgram

The Islamic World and the West Today with Elan Journo

The rooms allotted to OCON at the Marriott were all sold out but that turned out to be a good thing. I'll have my car and I'll be staying in a suite that includes a living room and a kitchenette at Extended Stay America two miles away that cost half of the special OCON rate at the Marriott.

So, who else is going?

I can't make it, but please report back on the lectures. I'd be very interested to read what was said.

I really wanted to go when it was in Colorado (my budget says I must be VERY choosy). The setting really seemed reminiscent of "Galt's Gulch" and I was excited at the prospect of seeing it. Unfortunately Santa Barbara didn't have the same all around appeal for a vacation, so I scheduled other things this summer. But I look forward to some first hand accounts of the great lectures that will take place in Santa Barbara, especially the one by Shoshana Milgram. She and Richard Salsman are definitely on my list of people that I am going to meet.

I hope you have a good time, Ms. Speicher!

I am not currently planning on it. But I may be able to drop by for dinner on July 5.

Well, as I live down the street (literally!) from the venue, I'll be stopping by in the evenings and weekend days, but I'm not planning on attending lectures this time.

Wow, great deal on the housing. Some of the courses look quite interesting, but I won't be able to make it this summer. I hope you'll have fun at the Dance Workshop!

I'll be going. Besides the general sessions, opening and closing receptions, and Independence Day lunch I'll be taking:

A2S1: Global Warming: The Science, Politics and Philosophy

A4S2: Health-Care Activism: Saving the Life Savers

B4S1: Russian Short Stories

C3S2: The Art of Introspection

D1S1: Philosophic Issues in Economics

Just curious - I know Betsy was on the cruise as was I, anyone else going to OCON who was on the cruise?
