At the moment, I hope Obama turns out to be like Clinton: an opportunistic, charismatic moderate/centrist posing as a leftist. He certainly ran as a leftist, but consider this article from the National Post, which concludes:

So it does seem that a pattern is already emerging that the “campaigning Obama” and the “ruling Obama” are two different people.

"Change" and "hope" are vague IOUs he sold people to get elected, but we'll see whether they ever get redeemed.
