Posted 31 Dec 2008 · Report post This story really surprised me; I had known for some time that there was literally more ice in Antarctica now than 30 years ago, but I didn't know the same could be said for the northern arctic area:http://icecap.us/images/uploads/Ice_Core_S...vels_Rising.pdfSo the edges are melting, but the center is growing! When you compare what is popularly reported in the news with what the reality actually is, it seems like we live in a world where up is down and black is white... Posted 1 Jan 2009 · Report post By far the most rational interpretation is that we're headed down into another ice age.Something that really struck me recently along this line was when I was reading some paper or another and came upon the sentence "some scientists have come to regard our recent history as just another interglacial period..." with the implication being that we are hovering in a warm period and will descend into a new ice age sometime.Considering 2008 is now the second most sunspotless year since 1900, it really does tickle one into wondering if a "Little Ice Age" is at least hiding around the corner. But really, what the climate is doing and where it is going is profoundly a matter of simply what interval you want to look at. We've been apparently cooling for the last 60 million years and still haven't turned around! http://www.paulmacrae.com/wp-content/uploa...-over-time1.jpg
