Rush Limbaugh loved it. He regards it as brilliant political satire. |

My girlfriend works for her ex-boyfriend. To make matters worse they had a serious relationship for ten years prior to me. Now she says they are just friends but I keep thinking it wouldn't take much for them to end up back together. I keep thinking I should just back away and let her go but I really like her and we have a lot of fun together. It's hard for me to be objective. It looks like you did a very good job of being objective when you communicated this to US. I suggest you communicate it to HER. Sometime when you are alone and talking about how you feel about things just say: "There's something I'm concerned about. You say you're just good friends with ______, but you do work for him. I keep thinking it wouldn't take much for you to end up back together and that really worries me because I really like you and we have a lot of fun together." Then see what she says and act accordingly. |

Amid reports that he and his henchmen in Congress ("Dirty" Harry Reid and "Nazi" Pelosi) still scheme to shove their take-over of health care down our throats, we must not relax either our vigilance or our protests! Talk radio has Mark Levin and THE FORUM has Bill Bucko! Wha--?!? I don't agree with the implication that I'm a major figure in the struggle against tyranny. Well, maybe not yet. But what I was really referring to was not your influence, but your style. You have such a brash and outspoken way of exposing and ridiculing the object of your disaffection. |

When Should the U.S. Use Military Force? A moderated conversation featuring: Joseph Capizzi, Associate Professor of Moral Theology at Catholic University Joe Volk, Executive Secretary of FCNL, a Quaker public interest lobby for peace Yaron Brook, President & Executive Director of the Ayn Rand Center. On what basis should our government commit to using military force? Are there morally justifiable reasons to go to war? Or is all violent conflict indefensible and counterproductive? Perhaps morality does not even have a proper place in questions of war and foreign policy. Many would say that deliberation on such matters should be directly tied to national interest. With current military engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan, simmering disputes with Iran and a plethora of humanitarian and genocidal crises around the world, issues of war and peace and global stability are of urgent concern for all people. Our speakers will debate these questions and present a wide range of perspectives and philosophies. Attendees are invited to stay after the event for an informal reception. The cost for each program is $10 for advance sales and at the door is $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens (over 62) and free for students (college students must present a current college ID and arrive by 7 pm). If possible, please RSVP by Tuesday, February 9-- wes.revp@gmail.com. This event starts on February 10, 2010 at 7:15 AM. Contact Information * Judith Johnson * judithheron@gmail.com Location WES Main Hall * 7750 16th Street, N.W. * Washington, DC 20012 |

That being said, the best attack on Keynes is still (in my somewhat limited because less well read opinion) Where Keynes Went Wrong by Hunter Lewis. Very readable too. In addition, I recommend Henry Hazlitt's Failure of the New Economics: Analysis of the Keynesian Fallacies. |

At the moment, the forum binds each login session to an IP address, if that session changes, you are logged out. Would it be possible to change the way how sessions are handled to remove the binding to IP address? I use 3G internet to connect to the forum in my spare time on my laptop, and so it never remembers my session for that long since my IP address is always constantly changing, but it is the same machine. I don't think so. It's just the way the FORUM software works. I also have the same problem of having to log in again when I use Facebook or iTunes on my iPhone. |

Question: When does (do) Objectivism (Objectivists) lapse into Platonism: Answer: when it (they) defend legal/intellectual abstractions. These flippant, obnoxious denunciations of Objectivism have no place on the Forum and are just as irrational anywhere else, with or without the rest of the accompanying flippant nonsense. I agree and, if I had not been out for the evening and missed it, I would have promptly deleted the post that contained this unwarranted and unsupported "When did you stop beating your wife" style dig at Objectivists. It's late and I will review this entire thread in the morning and answer, delete, or moderate offensive posts as necessary. In the meantime, I will close this thread until then. |

I wonder if someone who is closer to Massachussetts than I am (here in California) could comment on whether or not Mr. Brown's victory might have had far more to do with personal style than with a broad abstraction like capitalism (or rational self-interest). Polls of Massachusetts voters show that the main issue was opposition to ObamaCare with opposition to Obama's economic policies and his stance on terrorism also important. |

It is becoming a popular Facebook group, inspired by your essay, called "Tea Parties! Unite Around the Principle of Individual Rights!." Char started it a few hours ago and it already has 123 members. Make that 262 members. See what I mean by "going viral!" |

P.S. Betsy, one of the ladies you sent that link to asked me if it was OK if she did this: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=264168131106 Which, needless to say, I thought was positively incredible. She did a great job and I have you to thank for it! It is becoming a popular Facebook group, inspired by your essay, called "Tea Parties! Unite Around the Principle of Individual Rights!." Jesus, Betsy, but you have a lot of friends! I'm that rarity: A Objectivist extrovert. There are a handful of us out there (Andy Bernstein, Prodos, etc.). Facebook is where I do most of my political activism and where I post links to valuable, informative, and inspiring articles to political allies. Many of my Facebook friends are media personalities and political figures with thousands of their own Facebook friends, radio and TV shows, newspaper columns, and constituencies. When I posted your column, it went viral! Many of my Facebook friends reposted it to THEIR friends. Here are some typical reactions to your column. QUOTE Great article Betsy! Thanks for sharing! I will re-post! Thanks for posting this Betsy. Great article Brad. Love this! Re-posted. We need to spread this around. More than just re-posting. We need to send this to heads of tea parties, group pages and heads of organizations like Americans for Prosperity. Yes, a very good article. The Tea Parties certainly raise an awareness but most people won't understand their relevance; just as they likely have little knowledge of the point of the original one. There is not only a challenge in advocating individual rights, but one of the language used to make the effort effective and efficient. Thanks for the post, Betsy. Excellent article. Betsy--that's awesome! Nice to know the city that likes to call itself "the birthplace of liberty" has such good writers. I agree the article is right on target Good article. And thanks to Rand, I think I am one of those who can now "successfully define and illustrate the principles of freedom". |
