I've been gone lately due to my 2nd career taking hold. In addition to my day job in engineering I've taken a position at the investing firm where I've been a client for the pas16 years. Passed the Life & Health Exam recently and will be sitting for the Series 7 soon. I'm really enjoying it. I mention it here because Atlas Shrugged really played a role in my life, resulting in this drive to learn more and produce more. Hopefully, I'll get more time to check in here in the future, but I expect to stay very busy. Here's wishing my fellow Ayn Rand fans a prosperous 2012!

Got through the Series 7 and am studying for the Series 66 now. It's tough with two little kids and a full-time engineering job. But, my wife is very supportive and it's going well. I'm learning a great deal about the laws and self regulating organizations involved in this business and I find it very interesting. I'm also going to be meeting with a lady who has organized a growing organization that teaches financial smarts to kids and parents - something that I'd like to help out with. The Series 66 is said to be a really tough test. Should be a good challenge. This is a whole new world. I also found the study of options to be very exciting (geek?).

Anyway, on a side note...I am surprised at how much reading Atlas Shrugged clarified things for me. I can spot altruism creeping into society more and more as our economy stumbles on and our President does things that are counterproductive, even anti-freedom. Very interesting times. I heard somebody commenting this morning how it seems that our society is having trouble finding competent producers to run things correctly anymore. I just smiled.

Passed the 66! Will be getting licensed soon. It's been a challenging time but I've learned much. However, this will be much like my pilots license...we called that the "license to learn" - implying that the REAL learning occurs after you get your license - haha. Anyway, I took up the challenge and have met it. Very happy. I must thank Ayn Rand for the inspiration I found in Atlas Shrugged. During this process I also got a promoted to a senior engineering position at my day job (surprised me). It all reminds me of a quote from Ben Hogan. When a reporter told him that he thought Ben had gotten lucky while winning a tournament Ben replied, "The more I practice, the luckier I get." Doing this with two little kids at home as been a real challenge. I really want to work hard and the work keeps arriving. What a blessing.

Best of luck to all my fellow forum members...

Wonderful to see the enthusiasm. Well done.
Altruism isn't about giving a beggar a dime, it's about
whether you have the right to exist if you don't.

It's not that most men don't try to do the right thing.
The problem is that they don't know what the right thing is.

being moral. This all begs for a reason based ethics.

Thanks all. Yes, it's already an adventure. I'm really enjoying it. And...sneaking out late tonight to catch Atlas Shrugged II at a local theater!
